Scar
A scar is what is formed after an injury is healed. Scars form as a result of the natural process of wound repair. Scars form on skin and organs too. 

Types of scars:
There are different types of scars and some of them are explained below:

Atrophic
When the scar takes the form of a sunken recess in the skin, it is called as atrophic scar.

Umbilical
Your navel too is a type of scar. It develops as a part of healing process when the umbilical cord is cut after birth.

Hypertrophic: 
When the scars are raised above the skin level and look like a raised lump on the skin, they are referred to as hypertrophic scars.

Keloid
Keloids are scars caused by injuries of the whipping type. These are serious scars and can develop into large, non-cancerous tissue.

Stretch marks
These are a common type of scars and are caused when stretching of the skin happens rapidly in conditions like weight gain, adolescent growth and pregnancy, etc.

Scar Removal treatments

Laser treatment Nonablative lasers that stimulate collagen growth are used to treat Hypertrophic scars and Keloids. Atrophic and acne scars are treated with ablative lasers.

Filler injections
Atrophic scars are treated by injecting collagen. It is used as a filler to raise atrophic scars and bring them to the level of surrounding skin.

Chemical peels
Chemical peels are used to remove the superficial scars like those formed because of acne. The epidermis is destroyed by the chemicals in the peel in a controlled manner. This way, new skin is is formed and various conditions of skin are treated. This method is not advisable if there is a skin infection in the area of treatment.

Radiotherapy
This treatment is proven to prevent the recurrence of hypertrophic scarring and severe keloids. Radiotherapy is employed only in extreme cases.

Dressing
Silicone dressings are used for scar prevention and also to improve the appearance of existing scars. Pressure dressings are used for burn and hypertrophic scars and the results are very good. Pressure therapy is especially effective in treating ear Keloids.

Surgery
Surgical removal of scar is done in a way that the new wound formed after surgery leaves minimum scar.
In treating hypertrophic or keloid scars, a combination of surgery and laser-assisted healing is also practiced.

Subcision This method is used to treat deep rolling scars that are left behind by acne and other skin ailments. The appearance of severe glabella lines, which are the lines that are like parallel wrinkles between the eyebrows extending up the central forehead; is also lessened through subcision.
Other treatments like microdermabrasion, laser resurfacing or chemical peels are used to smoothen out the scars; after the skin is leveled through surgery.

Steroids
The appearance of Keloid or hypertrophic scars is flattened or softened with the help of Corticosteroid injections.

Other Scar Treatments
The other treatments that help conceal the scars temporarily employ medical make up and cosmetics. Such type of treatments is most commonly done for facial scars. Massaging is also effective in reduction of the scars. A surgical procedure called as the Dermabrasion is carried out wherein skin on the surface is removed and a fresh new skin takes its place.
