Vitiligo Surgeries

A common depigmenting disorder, vitiligo is associated with a great social stigma and causes cosmetic distress. It affects the quality of life severely and thus needs treatment.

We use different surgical modalities to treat vitiligo. We employ conventional treatments like suction blister grafting, miniature punch grafting and thin split thickness skin grafting and the recent ones like autologous non-cultured epidermal cell suspensions and cultured melanocyte suspensions or sheets.

Surgery
The people in whom light therapy and medications have not worked are candidates for surgery. The surgical techniques are aimed at getting the patient an even skin tone:

Skin grafting
In this procedure, very small sections of your healthy pigmented skin is transferred to areas that have lost the pigment. This procedure is best when patient has small patches of vitiligo

Blister grafting.
In this procedure, blisters are created on your pigmented skin mostly with suction and then the tops of the blisters are transplanted to discolored skin.

Cellular suspension transplant.
Some tissue on your pigmented skin is taken and the cells are put into a solution. This tissue is then transplanted onto the prepared affected area. It takes about 4 weeks for the results to appear.
